The Nature of
Education Is Changing and Accredited Online Study Is Now Available
Locally
American
International Business School (AIBS Online) has recently begun to
deliver classes online via local centres. This “blended” class
delivery allows students to study pre-university access courses at a
local educational institution and attract entrance level and advanced
university academic credit in the UK.
“Education in the 21st century is changing
rapidly and this is our effort to make it more accessible, affordable,
and appropriate. As the price of technology falls and its availability
increases around the world it is beginning to meet the increasing
demand for quality education.”
said Professor Marshall Hall Head of School and one of the Directors
of AIBS Online.
The
system works through the use of local schools and private education
companies who have adequate IT resources to deliver online classes.
The students also have access to their classes at their home computers
for study when it is convenient allowing them to keep their employment
and family responsibilities. When their studies are completed, the
student then is eligible to apply to a UK university for entrance or
advanced standing.
Parents can now save on average £8,000 by enrolling their child in the
UK accredited AIBS Online diploma offered in local delivery centres as
opposed to sending them to UK to take their courses. The price of an
average University Foundation course in the UK ranges from £3500 to
£8000, with additional £5000 for living expenses for the six to nine
months duration of the course.
Ms Joanna Oman, Marketing Director for AIBS Online says
“We believe that the use of the Internet and the World Wide Web
represents the most revolutionary change in the environment of the
educational community. The opportunities that are available on the Net
are practically limitless. On-line courses, tutoring via e-mail and
real time conferencing, cooperative group learning, teacher in-service
training, e-mail communication, information sharing and management,
and peer tutoring are only the beginning of utilizing the Internet's
boundless resources.”
In his paper New Markets for Meeting Old Needs: U.S. Distance
Education and Developing Countries Winthrop Carty said:
As computer-processing speed-to-cost ratios
continue to double every 18 months and telecommunications costs
plummet while bandwidth capabilities soar in similar ratio, it will
become vastly cheaper and easier to reach geographically wide student
audiences. This eventually will be true even in neglected regions with
the arrival of wireless systems. For the first time in history, basic
access to communications will not be a significant barrier and many
will want to seize this opportunity.
Students interested in taking online courses or schools and
educational institutions who are interested in running AIBS Online
courses should express their interest via the website www.aibus.org
The process of education is no longer limited to the confines of the
classroom or local geography and more and more students are anxious to
combine the elements of a traditional education with electronically
delivered curriculum and international travel. Educators globally
believe that this trend will continue to grow and that it is the
responsibility of 21st century educational institutions to develop
educational structures and methods, which will combine the
availability of world-wide resources with an increased diversity of
international students, and flexibility of study.
